THE CANTON PR CCW INCIDENT
Recently a video of a Canton, Ohio police officer, Daniel
Harless went viral on YouTube. The video showed Harless threaten and abuse a legally carrying concealed carry endorsement holder. You will have to watch the video to fully appreciate the blatant civil rights violations which starts out in what appears to be (at least to me) a completely illegal search of the vehicle. I won’t go into the details of the video as I want you to look it up and view it for yourself. Later in a radio interview Canton’s city board president went on give his views on the carrying of concealed weapons as allowed by law. His remarks were uneducated and completely ignorant of any facts whatsoever. Again, I want you to look this information up and read and see the videos for yourself. You will be shocked. MY RESPONSE TO ALLEN SCHULMAN: Your notion and implication that what goes on in your city with your citizens and law enforcement does not effect or cannot effect the rest of the nation is absurd. Court decisions set in the smallest of courts set precedence that other jurisdictions will base their cases and decisions on. Yes, Mr. Schulman, your administration and executive actions, as well as your municipal court proceedings and outcome do indeed effect the rest of us. Your notion that the practice of concealed carry is dangerous and will lead to deaths is a falsehood. Pick up any copy of an NRA magazine and you will read several true stories in every issue about how a firearm saved the life of a potential victim. It is apparent by your blatant disregard and contempt for the lawful practice of concealed carry that you are extremely and arrogantly ignorant on the issue. As a former chief of police looking at the raw video I will tell you regardless of the issue of concealed carry, or what the officer may have believed to be a violation, regardless of the actions of the individual who was stopped, Officer Daniel Harless acted in a manner that was not only completely unprofessional but in a manner that was completely reckless and inexcusable. I would venture to say that most administrations (that are run by sensible officials) would come to a conclusion that the immediate dismissal of such an officer who acted in such a manner would be not only be warranted but necessary and should be imminent. |
